London Airport Taxis and Transfers

Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton Taxis and Transfers

Recently I came accross a very difficult task- to find an authentic polish bread in London. In search for it I discovered there are actually few bakeries near London who specialise in traditional polish, old school breads, crust rolls, cakes and pastries.

It was for a festive period and most of the afmilly comes around, so we needed something exeptional and money wasn’t the issue at all. After a short cha with a gentelmen over the phone who operates polish bakery in North London named Cracow Bakery we decided to go for a big loafs of cracow bread, some crusty rolls soft inside and several different cakes including excellent cheese cake made with cheese shipped from Poland overnight.

It was a good choice and I can heartily recommend anyone to try any bread made by guys at Cracow Bakery.

Is a CabTransfers.co.uk a legitimate business? or is it a scam? Who is behind it?

CabTransfers.co.uk is another incarnation of inglorious BetterFares.co.uk and
TaxiQuoter.co.uk, http://www.taxiquoter.co.uk/

those two mentioned above has lots in common with:
RBC Management, http://rbcmanagement.co.uk/ and
Matrix Solutions, and
Alpha Marketing,
GNS Marketing,
Global Net Solutions,
AD CLaim Services- http://www.ppi.org.uk/
RBC Claim Management -http://bank-charges-claim.co.uk/

The person behind seemes to be Yasser Hussain
They have been calling at least several operators we know well in Greater London area offering an ‘increase in number of jobs and airport runs’ by ‘building a website around your business, with an online booking engine, card payment facilities and fully trackable calls, emails and bookings’ also promoting it via major search engines like google, yahoo, bing (yahoo and bing are now the same) for an amazeing value of £99/month.

What do they offer?

As an example they often give you one of their websites- e.g. http://cheaptaxiaylesbury.co.uk/
When you perform a search for it all you can see is a paid (sponsored) listing on the right hand side of the search results. Ath the time of writing this article earlier mentioned website could not be found anywhere on the first page in the Google.com OR Google.co.uk organic search results (unpaid). It is unclear to me at this stage if the £99/month includes the PPC campaign cost (you simply have to pay to be in those sponsored search results), but I really doubt it. What I think as an internet marketing and search engine optimisation concious and experienced person is tht they might even pay themselves for these results just as an example (so when they call you they can impress you with their results).

The truth is that anyone can be there- in the paid results. The only thing your performance in these sponsored results depends on and is based on, is on how big your wallet is– on how much you are willing to pay per click and how much you are willing to spend per day/week/month.

BUT when you stop paying- you simply disappear from those sponsored search results.
I called cabtransfers.co.uk on 01619692280 and spoke to the lady there pretending to be interested in their offer. All she was interested in was to finalize a deal, to sell and NOT TO answer my questions. It went all dodgy when I asked what the company is called, if they are registered limted company or not- she answered they are VAT registered but was not keen on providing me with their VAT registration number or any company details. Instead she kept pointing me to their website, repeating herself there was an address at the bottom and that’s where they are based. Well an address on the website does not necessarily prove anything at all. Why didn’t she give me a simple answer- ‘we are based at …, comapany registered name is … and we are trading as…, she did NOT want to answer these, why? I don’t know. You see anyone can put some address on the website- I can put 10 Downing Street in the footer and contact page of this one- but would you believe me I was located there based on the address placed on my website? She- the lady on the phone- also did say the websites will have a credit card payment facilities but did not answer who actually would process the payments for me and if they were regulated by the Financial Services Authority or/and regulated as a Money Service Business by HM Revenue and Customs.

Eventually I asked her if they were the same company as infamous betterfares.co.uk but she did not answer either.

Well I can tell you this: cabtransfers.co.uk AND betterfares.co.uk AND taxiquoter.co.uk ARE the same company and the man behind is the very same person Yasser Hussain.

He has registered (ie. Yasser Hussain) hundreds domain names (domain names like betterfares.co.uk, etc) on his name.

They are mostly kept on one of the two IPs on his reseler hosting package bought from EUKHOST
IP1: 78.129.128.199

IP2: 78.129.128.200

These packages they offer do not include a domain name right transfer to your name, so once you withdraw from the contract they have the domain name some of your customers might be familiar with, they might have the phone number you have been using for a year (they offer you phonecalls stats and the only easy way to do it is to offer you a VOIP number which they can then redirect to yours- bear in mind you are not the owner of it!).
So when you are all excited at the begining, giving your customers new business cards with your new website address (which de facto does not belong to you) and you provide great service, so your customers write about you online recommending your service to friends. After some time you migh realise the website does not bring you a value for money so you withdraw from the contract after a year. You have lost over 12 hundreds and where is Yasser Hussain? He now has your website with genuine links pointing to it from your customers who were happy they recommended your service to their friends. He can now sell it to your competitor or just place there links to other of his websites building for free (actually using your money) his online taxi comparison websites imperium. He even knows what customers you had through the website, and maybe you did not have many of them, but he is not going for small numbers- he has hundreds of such websites and poor idiots who are ready to sponsor him and his wealth unaware.

These are some pictures – snapshots made online:

Being a private hire (aka minicab) or a taxi driver isn’t easy. Long hours spent in traffic jams. Drunk and demanding customers and no fixed working hours… then the commercial taxi or minicab car insurance which often cost double or more what average ‘John Smith’ pays.

So what to do save some money and to find that cheap minicab insurance?

I have recently came accross a great resource for taxi and minicab drivers registered with the PCO London looking to renew their car insurance policies. The website is called Cheap Minicab Insurance and provides information dedicated to (mainly) London drivers, both hackney carriage licensed taxi and private hire (ie. minicab). There are companies listed there as well as a forum- a discussion board (however it looks pretty empty to me).

I wish there was a comparison website which would give an instant quote after filling in your details, but there isn’t at the moment. Or perhaps you know one and if you do share it with us please.

Clockwise Cars in Mitcham is an auto-trading company (aka autotrader) who offers used cars. Soon there might be a review here about the level of customer service they provide, reliability and genuinity of car sales.

As we currently are in a process of potentionally buying a car from this seller (deposit paid) we soon might be able to tell you who is behind Clockwise Cars and if its a genuine car seller.

If you have came accross with this trader we would greatly appreciate your comments on this post and your own opinions based on a personal experience with Clockwise Cars from Mitcham near Croydon with postcode: CR4 4BJ and telephone number: 020 8648 0922 or tel: 07961 981278

Good or bad- post it here to help others make their own mind.

Another day, another Virgin Atlantic flight and another ‘NO SHOW’ at London Gatwick Airport.

After an hour of waiting one of the drivers reported a no show. When we contacted a passenger – an American lady- she was still in Orlando in her bed! and not at Gatwick Airport looking for a taxi transfer to Stansted.

Why did it happen, did she miss her flight?

No she flies out of States today on 21st July, but will get to Gatwick tomorrow morning. Obvious for anyone who travels frequently in and out of Europe but apparently not for many Americans.

For future reference we advised her to check not only a departure date but the arrival. She was kind enough to sent us the original Virgin Atlantic Itinerary which DOES NOT GIVE THIS information- it only says the arrival can be on a different day than the departure.

We live in absurd times expressed at the insanity of some descriptions on a daily used products, where on a pack of nuts there’s an information that ‘It may contain nuts’, or a Warning Hot- on a hot cup of coffee, but there is no information on when you arrive at the destination provided clearly on one of the most popular arlines’ itineraries. VS you should be ashamed it is a disgrace. Longer I live less fan I become of your brands. It seems that the only thing you are good at is advertising your products and services but as soon as something is sold, the effort is gone.

Passengers be advised to make sure that the arrival date is the local arrival date, not the departure when placing a reservation for airport taxi transfers from Heathrow or Gatwick Airports.

The ash cloud from unpronounceable Icelandic vulcano -Eyjafjallajokull is spreading over the UK. Airports in Ireland and Isle of Man were closed in the morning on Sunday, then Manchester Airport followed.

From 1:00am Monday the 17th Gatwick and Heathrow airports remain closed until (at least) 7:00am, but considering restrictions ahve not been lifted in the north parts of the UK, we can expect Gatwick and Heathrow to be closed after 7:00.

We are now facing disruptions which can last several months. With no control over the vulcano or the ash it produces and considering several months of its last activity 200 years ago we should be prepared for lot of frustration and business losses.

Maybe it’s time to go back to old fashioned planes with rotary engines and proppelers instead these when-ash-faulty turbo jet engines?

London Gatwick Airport is a nice and rather small airport with two terminals. There is no proper taxi rank outside with black cabs waiting as Gatwick is located 30 miles south of Central London taxis and minicabs are controlled by different Borough.

London Gatwick Airport Taxi Service

London Gatwick Taxi Service is provided officially by Private Hire Operator called Checker Cars- you have to make a booking with the operator to get a car. Unlawfully they advertise their services as ‘taxi’. They are no different than hundreds of minicab firms across London and the UK. What is different about their service is the price, which is much higher than this offered by the rest of Private Hire Operators which ae not allowed to have their desks at Gatwick Terminals. Obviously they never get a fare back to Gatwick, so they have to put prices up and drivers drive like crazy to make it back, so they can get another fare ASAP.

If you ask me if there is an alternative to Checkers in providing London Gatwick Airport with a Taxi Service (or a minicab, chauffeured private hire) I could point you to the internet where you can find a good alternative. I would personally go for a company not scared to publish its address details on the website- some don’t- and these are probably the doggy ones.

Update May 2012:

123-taxi.co.uk- branded minicab operator who provides taxi transfers to and from Gatwick Airport since 2008 recently changed it’s name to 123-gatwick-taxi.co.uk. You may still visit the website under new name here. This branding change is meant to help pottential customers to associate this new brand name with service range (i.e. ‘to and from Gatwick’) provided by them.

Roadworks at junction 9, where you exit the M23 for London Gatwick Airport, is finally finished. What it means to taxi and minicab drivers picking up from Gatwick is that there will be no more overnight closures and we can all drive to London via M23, not via Redhill or Reigate.

Easter is rather busy time and both passengers flying out of London and coming back home for Easter use Gatwick extensively.  The full opening of roundabout at junction 9 at Gatwick was very important and we should all praise the Highway Agency for the job done before this festive period. Most of us will get 4 days off and will enjoy the weather (well Saturday was nice and warm and we can presume the Sunday will be just as nice).

Some of taxi and minicabs drivers and chauffeurs will take a few days work, some will work as usual – not all of us celebrate Easter. Let’s hope there will be no major accidents on M25 and M23 near London Gatwick Airport will not be congested so those of us who have a working weekend ahead will have a nice and easy one.

Why would a Taxi, Minicab or an Airport Transfers operator expect the journey booked by an American to be prepaid in full, in advance? The reason for that is simple. Most poor Americans who visit Europe come here for the first and only time. There is nothing wrong in  visiting places for the first time as such, but many Americans have very little knowledge and understanding of the world beyond the state they live in and this is why many problems any misunderstandings begin.

Let’s be clear here I am not talking about those Americans who studied on Harvard, Princeton, Yale or MIT. I am talking about poor Mr. Joe Smith-Capone whos grand, grand father came frrom Italia to NYC and now Mr Smith wants to show his teen children a Live museum- Europe, where his ancestors lived.

Everything in America is bigger, brighter and longer than in Europe except for the history. And everything is so cheap. Despite we all pay thesame for the barell of oil, here in Europe and here in the UK (UK always underlines its separation from Europe- continent- continental) our European and UK- socialist governments charge us double taxes on fuel in comparison to what US government charges its beloved citizens. Because the ‘gasoline’ is so cheap in US, Americans can afford to buy and maintain 3.5-6 litre engines, while we have to stick to 1.4 or 1.6 petrol and 1.9 if in diesel. They have their SUVs and trucks and we have our Opel/Vauxhall Corsas and Nissan Micras.

So what it all has to do with Taxis, Minicabs and Transfer operators at Gatwick. Why do some operators want Americans to prepay their taxis, minicabs or airport transfers in advance?

Because many Americans who book a saloon car for four passengers with luggage will arrive with so much luggage that some of the MPV 6 seater cars would not handle it. They just differently understand sizes. What we consider big for them is just normal- M size. What we consider huge for them it might be big. What whe consider gigantic they consider of a good size.

So the reason for Gatwick Airport Taxi operators to charge upfront is du to Americans booking cars which are too small to handle the luggage. There is another issue -the arogance and rudeness of many Smiths towards taxi drivers- probably because being a taxi driver in States is one of the lowest professions you could think of, so the lack of respect for the taxi drivers is  very common there. Pre-paid taxi driver can be more assertive, unpaid will have to put up with often a long unpleasant fare.

BA Strike- strikes directly in the London Airports Transfer Industry

Last BA strike action put many London Airport Taxi operators as well as Chauffered Executive Transfer Car Services in a difficult situation as some flights were cancelled, many rescheduled for different hours and some redirected to different airports.  “It was a very difficult weekend for all of us”-says Ahmed Haram- the Transfer Operations Chief Executive at London Transfers Travel Group.

New flight schedule confirmed.

British Airways now revealed that the flying schedule for 23 to 26 March 2010 does not change much, but the next strike will take place very soon from 27th to 30th of March an may result with further disruptions at Gatwick.

Where does the Airport Transfers Industry Stands?

We at the transfer taxi industry have to be prepared as delays and canellations are inevitable. There’s a rumor at Gatwick Airport that Although many services will be operating as normal, the short haul flights- continental and domestic ones will be the ones that we may expect to be most vanurable to cancellations and disruptions.

Let’s hope these transfers which were pre paid by cards will not be affected in anyway as any cancellations result in a company lose.

My own thoughts of strikes, trasnfers and unions.

We are all counting down days to London Olympics. Maybe British Airways’ Unite unions will have enough common sense not to interrupt that world scale event. I absolutely hate unions and think that unions officials shoul be arrested and sent to work in gold mines in Kosovo. Let them try to make unions there and see how it goes.  For me it always was very simple- you do not like the place you work, do not like the pay go somewhere else. Should any people be protected against the employment reductions in any company- no they should not. This is worst than a socialism which I grew up in. This sick kind of protectionism is even sicker that the ‘social benefit industry’ in tha UK. Believe me or not but you- the UK are sinking into social-blur-buttness. The more regulations there are the sicker the country becomes and more fraudalent prectises occurs. As for the taxi and transfer industry licenses( hiddden taxes) and rising fuel prices together with less work due to less customers scared to spend money or customers with no money to spend, these types of strike actions hit hard and below the waist.
